Peroni Pompe delivers ammonia fuel pump to Alfa Laval for WinGD testing, achieving zero emissions performance

Milan, Italy – October 17th, 2025 — As the maritime industry accelerates its journey toward decarbonization, ammonia is emerging as one of the most promising green fuels. To enable this transition, fuel supply systems must meet the highest standards of reliability and safety.

Peroni Pompe is proud to announce that its high-pressure fuel injection pump has been successfully supplied to Alfa Laval and tested at the WinGD Engine Research and Innovation Centre in Winterthur, Switzerland. The testing confirmed excellent results and earned very positive feedback from the project partners.

The pump is a critical component for both the reliability and safety of the Ammonia fuel supply system. We have now tested it and are very satisfied with the cooperation we experienced with Peroni throughout the project at the WinGD test facility.”

— Davide Rossin, Head of R&D, Alfa Laval

Confirmed performance

Zero ppm emissions measured during operation, confirming maximum safety in handling ammonia aboard vessels.

Reliable fuel delivery under demanding test conditions at WinGD’s facilities.

Pump design benefits

In addition to the confirmed test results, the Peroni Pompe plunger pump delivers several key advantages by design:

Compact layout for seamless integration in fuel supply systems.

Long-term reliability and easy onboard maintenance.

• Positive displacement principle enabling flexible flow adjustment with VFD control without recirculation, maintaining 90+% efficiency.

Supporting a sustainable maritime future

This successful collaboration between Peroni Pompe, Alfa Laval, and WinGD marks another important step forward in enabling the safe use of ammonia as a marine fuel — helping the global shipping industry transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Condition Monitoring for early fault detection

Peroni Pompe's innovative Delfi system represents the first condition monitoring tool in the world for process plunger pumps. It can be installed in any environment, including ATEX zones, and in any location, from an urban process plant to an unmanned offshore platform. Its sophisticated algorithms can detect early signs of impending failures, aiding in the prevention of expensive shutdowns. Delfi can be operated both locally (offline), and remotely (online) with optional direct support from Peroni after sales technicians.
